Produced with EWTN Studios, the new travel and culture series takes viewers through the heart of Italy, exploring architecture, cuisine, music, and sacred art—revealing how beauty itself can become a path to the divine.

“Seeking Beauty”

The series follows actor David Henrie on a journey of discovery and inspiration, inviting audiences to see familiar masterpieces and historic places with new eyes.

For Edmundo Reyes, Executive Producer of Seeking Beauty and the mind behind the original concept, the project begins with a shift in how art is perceived.

“To stand before a painting by Caravaggio or a sculpture by Michelangelo, and not merely see it as decoration or as art, but to perceive a message that God wants to give us—that which awakens in us a sense of beauty—is calling us to Him,” Reyes explained. “So it’s about slowing down a little, moving more deliberately, and finding in beauty that language of God, that divine communication.”

Hidden Stories of Faith in Art and Culture

Reyes traces the inspiration for the series to a family trip to Spain, where he realized how many stories of faith remain unnoticed, even in world-famous places.

“I was with my family visiting Seville, a beautiful cathedral—one of the most beautiful cathedrals in all of Spain,” Reyes recalled. “We were there looking at different things: there is a very beautiful altarpiece, the tomb of Christopher Columbus, and many things to see.”

Yet it was a quieter moment that left the deepest impression. “There was a room with a stunning painting by Esteban Murillo of the Immaculate Conception,” he said. “The dogma of the Immaculate Conception was defended in Seville many years before it became a dogma for the entire faith.”

Moments like these shape the heart of Seeking Beauty: slowing down, paying attention, and discovering how faith has been woven into culture for centuries.

David Henrie: From Searching for Truth to Living It

The series is hosted by David Henrie, known to many for his starring role in Disney’s Wizards of Waverly Place. Though his career flourished in Hollywood, Henrie says his personal life was marked by a deeper restlessness.

“I was desperately searching for objective truth, trying many different philosophies and forms of religion,” Henrie shared. “And when it finally clicked, it clicked big.”

That turning point changed everything. “I knew I needed to make a massive change,” he said. “But it was through friendship with good men that I found answers to my questions—and it all happened in Hollywood, ironically.”

Speaking with EWTN Vatican Correspondent Paola Arriaza Flynn, Henrie reflected on how faith now shapes his family life.

“You can’t give what you don’t have,” he said. “If you’re going to have a faithful family and you don’t have any faith, you know, you got to have it to give it.”

“Without a doubt,” Henrie added, “my faith has informed everything in my family, in everything that we do. In everything, everything. I don’t know what we would do without it. It’s the unifying principle.”

In its first season, Seeking Beauty journeys through the Vatican, Rome, Milan, Venice, Florence, and Subiaco, uncovering how art and culture point beyond themselves to God. A second season, already in development, will turn its focus to the beauty and faith of Spain.

By inviting viewers to slow down and truly see, Seeking Beauty offers more than a travel experience—it becomes a meditation on how what is truly beautiful always leads the heart home.

Adapted by Jacob Stein.
